Homemade Kettle Corn

  • 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add 3 popcorn kernels and cover.
  2. Once these kernels pop, add the remaining popcorn kernels and sugar, stirring quickly to coat the kernels evenly.
  3. Cover the pot and shake it gently back and forth over the burner. Continue shaking frequently to prevent the sugar from burning.
  4. Once the popping slows down to several seconds between pops, remove the pot from heat. Keep the lid on until the popping stops completely.
  5. Pour the kettle corn into a large bowl, sprinkle with salt, and toss to distribute the salt evenly.
  6. Allow the kettle corn to cool for a few minutes before serving to avoid burns.
