Old Fashioned Fudge

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Directions:

  1. Grease an 8×8-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, unsalted butter, whole milk, cocoa powder, and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture comes to a boil.
  3. Continue to boil for 5 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent sticking.
  4. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually stir in the powdered sugar until the mixture is smooth and well combined. If using, fold in the chopped nuts.
  6. Pour the fudge mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.
  7. Let the fudge cool completely at room temperature before cutting it into squares.
