Oklahoma Nut Candy

  1. Ingredients:
    • 2 cups granulated sugar
    • 1 cup whole milk
    • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 2 cups mixed nuts (pecans, walnuts, almonds)
    1. In a large saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, whole milk, and unsalted butter. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture reaches the soft-ball stage (235-240°F or 112-116°C) on a candy thermometer.
    2. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and mixed nuts. Continue stirring until the mixture thickens and loses its gloss.
    3. Drop spoonfuls of the mixture onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Let cool completely until firm.
    4. Store the candy in an airtight container at room temperature.
