Ingredients:
- 2 large onions
- 4 mozzarella cheese sticks
- 1 cup flour
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 2 cups breadcrumbs
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon papke
- Oil for frying
- Marinara sauce for dipping
Directions:
- Peel the onions and cut into approximately 1/2-inch thick slices. Separate the rings.
- Slice the mozzarella sticks into 1-inch pieces.
- Place a piece of mozzarella between two onion rings that fit together (the mozzarella should be snug).
- Prepare three bowls for breading: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder and paprika.
- Dip each onion-mozzarella ring into flour, then egg, and finally coat thoroughly with the breadcrumb mixture.
- Freeze the prepared rings for at least an hour (this helps them hold together while frying).
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
- Fry the rings in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Do not overcrowd the fryer.
- Drain on paper towels.
- Serve hot with marinara sauce for dipping.
