Homemade Cheese Sticks

  • 12 sticks of mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups Italian seasoned breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Oil for frying
  • Marinara sauce for dipping

  1. Cut mozzarella into 12 sticks approximately 4 inches long.
  2. Place flour in a shallow dish.
  3. Beat the eggs in a second shallow dish.
  4. Mix breadcrumbs with garlic powder and oregano in a third shallow dish.
  5. Dip each cheese stick into the flour, then the beaten egg, and finally coat with the breadcrumb mixture. Press the crumbs onto the cheese sticks to ensure they adhere well.
  6. Place the coated cheese sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 1 hour.
  7. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large saucepan to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Fry the cheese sticks in batches until golden brown, about 1 minute per side. Do not overcrowd the pan.
  9. Drain on paper towels.
  10. Serve hot with marinara sauce for dipping.
