  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water
  • Additional sliced onions (optional, for gravy)

  3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for 4-5 minutes per side or until browned and cooked to desired doneness.
  4. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, add additional sliced onions if using, and sauté until soft.
  6. Pour beef broth into the skillet, bring to a simmer.
  7. Stir in the cornstarch mixture and continue to cook, stirring, until the gravy thickens.
  8. Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet and simmer for another 5 minutes.
  9. Serve the hamburger steaks covered with the onion gravy.
