- Ingredients:
- 1 sleeve (about 40) saltine crackers
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup chopped pecans (optional)
Directions:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper and arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer, covering the entire sheet.
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and brown sugar together. Bring to a boil and let it boil for 3-4 minutes, stirring constantly, until it thickens and turns a caramel color.
- Carefully pour the hot caramel mixture over the saltine crackers, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 5 minutes, until the caramel is bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot caramel. Let them sit for a few minutes to melt, then spread the melted chocolate evenly over the toffee.
- If desired, sprinkle chopped pecans over the melted chocolate.
- Let the toffee cool completely, then break it into pieces.
