Homemade Buttermilk Biscuits

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk, cold
  • 1 tablespoon honey (optional, for brushing)

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingertips, cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the cold buttermilk. Stir until just combined and a dough forms.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times. Pat the dough into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick.
  6. Fold the dough over onto itself in thirds (like folding a letter) and then pat it out
