Ingredients:
- 1 pound fresh strawberries, hulled and halved
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 4 tablespoons cold butter, cubed
- 3/4 cup whole milk
- 1 quart oil for frying
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar for dusting
- Wooden skewers
Directions:
- In a bowl, toss the strawberries with granulated sugar and set aside for 15 minutes to macerate.
- In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add milk to form a soft dough.
- On a floured surface, roll the dough to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut into small circles using a biscuit cutter.
- Skewer the macerated strawberries with wooden skewers, alternating with the dough circles.
- Heat the oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
- Fry the skewered pops until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
- Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
