Banana Bread with Cream Cheese Filling and Walnuts

Ingredients

Banana Bread Batter

  • 1 stick (½ cup) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg + 1 egg yolk
  • 3 ripe bananas
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts

Cream Cheese Filling

  • 1 large egg
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare a 9×5-inch loaf pan by spraying it with non-stick cooking spray.

Prepare the Batter

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the melted butter, sugar, milk, vanilla extract, egg, and egg yolk. Mix until well combined.
  3. In a separate small bowl, mash the bananas. Fold the mashed bananas into the wet mixture.
  4. Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and stir until everything is just combined. Do not overmix.

Prepare the Cream Cheese Filling

  1. In a small bowl, beat together the cream cheese, egg, sugar, and flour until smooth and creamy.

Assemble the Bread

  1. Pour half of the banana bread batter into the prepared loaf pan.
  2. Spread the cream cheese filling evenly over the batter.
  3. Pour the remaining banana bread batter on top.
  4. Sprinkle the chopped walnuts over the top.

Bake

  1. Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  2. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove it and transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  3. Slice and serve.
