  • Author: Emily
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 12-15 cheese balls 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

Bolitas de Queso are crispy fried cheese balls that are perfect as an appetizer or snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (such as mozzarella, cheddar, or a blend)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko for extra crunch)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Gather all your ingredients and set up a breading station with three shallow bowls: one for flour, one for beaten eggs, and one for breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the shredded cheese.
  3. Take a small amount of cheese (about a tablespoon) and roll it into a ball. Repeat until all the cheese is shaped into balls, yielding about 12-15 cheese balls.
  4. Roll each cheese ball in flour, shake off excess, dip in beaten eggs, and then roll in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to ensure adherence.
  5. Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot over medium heat.
  6. Test the oil by dropping in a small piece of bread; if it sizzles, the oil is ready.
  7. Carefully add a few cheese balls to the hot oil, frying for about 2-3 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried cheese balls and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  9. Repeat the frying process with the remaining cheese balls.
  10. Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley if desired, and enjoy with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For extra crunch, use panko breadcrumbs.
  • Make sure not to overcrowd the pan while frying.
  • These cheese balls can be served with various dipping sauces.
