Description
Stuffed Cabbage Rolls are a delicious and hearty dish made with tender cabbage leaves filled with a savory mixture of rice, ground meat, and spices, all simmered in a rich tomato sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large head cabbage
- 1 cup uncooked rice
- 1 pound ground beef or turkey
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 2 cups tomato sauce
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
Instructions
- Boil a large pot of water. Remove the core from the cabbage and place it in boiling water for 2-3 minutes until leaves soften. Let cool slightly and peel off about 12 outer leaves.
- In a large bowl, mix the rice, ground meat, onion, garlic, beaten egg, salt, pepper, paprika, and oregano until well combined.
- Take each cabbage leaf, place 2-3 tablespoons of filling at the base, and roll tightly, tucking in the sides.
- Pour a thin layer of tomato sauce at the bottom of a large pot. Place the rolls seam-side down in the pot, then cover with remaining sauce.
- Cover and simmer on low heat for 30-40 minutes until the filling is cooked through and the cabbage is tender.
- Carefully serve hot, drizzled with extra tomato sauce if desired.
Notes
- Choose a firm, green cabbage for the best results.
- Feel free to substitute ground beef with turkey for a lighter option.
- Adjust the spices according to your taste preference.
