Description
A classic Sloppy Joes recipe featuring ground beef, onions, bell peppers, and a tangy sauce served on hamburger buns.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef (or turkey)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 green bell pepper, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 hamburger buns
- Optional toppings: sliced pickles, shredded cheese, or coleslaw
Instructions
- In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it up with a wooden spoon as it cooks for about 5-7 minutes until no longer pink. Drain excess fat.
- Add the chopped onion and green bell pepper to the skillet and sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
- Pour in the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, yellow mustard, chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir until well combined.
- Reduce heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add a splash of water if it gets too thick.
- Toast the hamburger buns if desired until golden brown.
- Spoon a generous amount of the Sloppy Joe mixture onto the bottom half of each bun and add optional toppings.
- Place the top half of the bun on and serve immediately.
Notes
- For a healthier option, you can use ground turkey instead of beef.
- Feel free to adjust the spices according to your taste.
- These Sloppy Joes are best served fresh but can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
