- Add the cold, cubed butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough just comes together.
- Divide the dough into two discs, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- In a large bowl, toss the apple slices with the granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter and add the apple mixture, cooking for 5–7 minutes.
- Stir in the Jack Daniel’s Apple and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
- Let the filling cool completely before assembling the pie.
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Roll out one disc of dough into a 12-inch circle and fit it into a 9-inch pie dish.
- Pour the cooled apple filling into the crust and dot with cubed butter.
- Roll out the second disc of dough, place it over the filling, and seal the edges.
- Brush the top crust with beaten egg and sprinkle with sugar.
- Bake for 20 minutes at 400°F, then reduce to 375°F and bake for an additional 35–45 minutes.
- Let the pie cool on a wire rack for at least an hour before slicing.
Notes
- Use a mix of apple varieties for the best flavor.
- Make sure the filling is completely cool before adding it to the crust to avoid a soggy bottom.
- Cover the edges with aluminum foil if they brown too quickly during baking.
