Description

Hoosier sugar cream pie is a traditional dessert from Indiana, known for its creamy filling and sweet flavor, often enjoyed warm or chilled.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F. Place your unbaked pie crust in a 9-inch pie pan, crimping the edges as you like. Set it aside while you prepare the filling.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, flour, and salt until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, pour in the heavy cream and add the vanilla extract. Slowly whisk the cream mixture into the dry ingredients until smooth.
  4. Pour the filling into the prepared pie crust, spreading it evenly.
  5. Sprinkle the ground nutmeg and cinnamon over the top.
  6. Dot the top of the filling with small pieces of butter.
  7. Carefully place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes.
  8. Reduce the temperature to 350°F and continue baking for an additional 30 to 35 minutes, or until the filling is set and the top is lightly golden.
  9. Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for at least 1 hour before serving.

Notes

  • Serve warm or chilled, topped with whipped cream if desired.
  • Allowing the pie to cool helps the filling firm up.
