Description

Grandma’s Torcetti cookies are delightful, twisted cookies that are perfect for enjoying with tea or coffee.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon grated lemon zest (optional)
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Set aside.
  3. In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 to 5 minutes.
  4. Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture, mixing until well combined. If using, add the lemon zest.
  5. Sprinkle the baking powder into the flour mixture and gradually add it to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, starting and ending with the flour. Mix until just combined.
  6. Take a small piece of dough, roll it into a rope about 6 inches long, twist it into a spiral shape, and place it on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Repeat until all the dough is used, leaving space between each cookie.
  8. Bake for about 12 to 15 minutes, or until lightly golden around the edges.
  9. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
