Description
Grandma’s Torcetti cookies are delightful, twisted cookies that are perfect for enjoying with tea or coffee.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon grated lemon zest (optional)
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Set aside.
- In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 to 5 minutes.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture, mixing until well combined. If using, add the lemon zest.
- Sprinkle the baking powder into the flour mixture and gradually add it to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, starting and ending with the flour. Mix until just combined.
- Take a small piece of dough, roll it into a rope about 6 inches long, twist it into a spiral shape, and place it on the prepared baking sheet.
- Repeat until all the dough is used, leaving space between each cookie.
- Bake for about 12 to 15 minutes, or until lightly golden around the edges.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
