Description
A delicious twist on the classic burger, featuring caramelized onions and melted Gruyère cheese, inspired by French onion soup.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend for juiciness)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 4 slices Gruyère cheese
- 4 hamburger buns, toasted
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter and olive oil together.
- Add the sliced onions, sprinkle with sugar, and stir. Cook for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden brown.
- Add thyme and beef broth, cooking for another 5 minutes until the liquid reduces.
- In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard. Mix gently.
- Form the mixture into four equal patties with a small indentation in the center.
- Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat and cook the patties for 4-5 minutes on one side.
- Flip the patties, top each with a slice of Gruyère cheese, and cook for another 3-4 minutes until the cheese melts.
- Assemble the burgers on toasted buns, topping with caramelized onions and fresh parsley.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
Notes
- For best results, use high-quality ground beef.
- Adjust the cooking time for the burgers based on your preferred doneness.
- Feel free to add additional toppings like arugula or sliced tomatoes.
