Description
Chinese Radish Cakes are a delicious and savory dish made from grated daikon radish, rice flour, and various seasonings, steamed and then pan-fried to perfection.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 medium daikon radish, peeled and grated (about 2 cups)
- 1 cup rice flour
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
- 1/2 cup shiitake mushrooms, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup green onions, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup cooked Chinese sausage or lap Cheong, diced (optional)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, for frying
- Soy sauce, for serving
Instructions
- Grate the daikon radish into a large bowl and squeeze out excess moisture using a clean kitchen towel or cheesecloth.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the rice flour, water, salt, and white pepper until you have a smooth batter.
- Fold the grated radish into the batter along with the chopped shiitake mushrooms, green onions, and diced Chinese sausage (if using).
- Grease an 8-inch round cake pan and pour the radish mixture into the pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
- Steam the cake in a steamer basket over boiling water for about 30 to 40 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool for a few minutes before removing it from the pan and slicing it into squares or wedges.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat, add vegetable oil, and fry the slices for about 3 to 4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
- Serve hot with soy sauce for dipping.
Notes
- Ensure to squeeze out as much moisture from the radish as possible to avoid soggy cakes.
- Feel free to customize the recipe by adding other vegetables or proteins.
- These cakes can be made ahead of time and reheated before serving.
