Creamy and the ultimate comfort food! I remember my Grandma used to make this for us when we were just little kids. Whenever we came to visit her, it was divine because of all the meals she served! It was always a feast. This Chicken and Dumplings is just one of her best recipes. Oh, man, give this one a try and you are so in for a treat! Add more ingredients if you want to give it your take. This is best served on a rainy Sunday night. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

1 cup of water

1 tablespoon shortening

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon baking powder

2-3 cups all-purpose flour

1 medium chicken, whole

3/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

water, enough to boil and for broth

How to make Homemade Chicken and Dumplin’s:

Step 1: Boil a pot of water with 3/4 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper. Add and cook the chicken for about an hour.

Step 2: Take the chicken out of the pot and debone.

Step 3: To make a dough, combine the salt, baking powder, shortening, 1 cup water and around 2 cups of flour in a mixing bowl. If desired, add a bit more food colouring before adding in the flour.

Step 4: On a floured surface very thinly roll the dough.

Step 5: Cut the dough to about an inch wide and 3-inch long strips.

Step 6: Into the boiling chicken, add in the strips. Continue to boil for 20 minutes more while often stirring.

Step 7: Add in the chicken. To taste, season with extra salt and pepper.

Note:

Roll the dough out on parchment paper if desired.

If desired, add a piece of chicken bouillon cube or 1/4 teaspoon of poultry seasoning.
